12/3/07:

Today, Anna, Caroline, and I began our pbwiki. We decided to call it hacBacteria. We also divided up the research questions. I have numbers 2, 5, 8, and 9. I began my research that night. There does not seem like there are going to be many helpful sources. Our bacteria sounds interesting, though. I’m just worried that we will not be able to find all the information that we need.
12/4/07:
Today was dedicated to finalizing our project timeline. We tried to set reasonable goals for our research. We set several dates to meet and work outside of class. We also figured out how to set our timeline as a link on the sidebar.

12/05/07 – I did the Lab Report.
12/06/07 – During class, we worked on our projects. We put together an email and interview that we would send Dr. Battista in hopes of him being able to answer some of our unanswered questions.  We also had to retype the Timeline because it had been erased and we also slightly edited it. Also, some of our citations from Source Aid were also erased, so the good majority of our time in class was redoing work that had previously been finished.
At home, I worked on finishing my 2nd question and started on my 3rd. I hit a bit of a road bump however I figured I could get some help from Anna and CB.
12/07/07 – During class we did the lab on bacteria and didn’t work much on our wiki or our research. We did discuss sending another email to a different professor, Daly. We heard back from him and we got his approval to link his website from our wiki.
I finished my research on the benefits of deinococcus radiodurans in our environment. I started looking at how our world would be different if we didn’t have deinococcus radiondurans. I didn’t find much however I could infer that it can clean up toxic waste sites at a much lower cost. In the future it could be used in medicines to help our armed forces fight in radioactive sites.
12/ 09/07 – CB, Anna and I got together to work on our site and finish us some research. We formulated questions for Daly as well as started to organize our wiki. We also talked about the info we attained as well as merging our notes in hopes to help each of us finish researching our assigned topics.
We also discussed what we wanted the final product to look like as well as what the different sites or pages we wanted to have. We hope to have it up and looking more like an informational site as soon as possible.
It came to my attention that my Uncle Bill has a Ph. D in microbiology and is a professor at Cornell. We got his number hopefully will be contacting him soon for more information.
12/10/07
In class time we were able to finish our lab analysis for the antibiotic lab.
Today, I got an e-mail from Anna stating that Dr. Daly had e-mailed her back asking to set up a conference call with him on Wednesday at noon (his time) to answer some of our questions. She got permission from Ms. Rasmussen to use her office phone to call him. I am nervous and also very excited. I hope he is able to give us answers to our question.
12/11/07:
Anna told us today that she had heard back from Professor Daly saying that he would like to have a phone conference with us tomorrow at noon, so we talked to Mrs. Rasmussen and got her approval. We spent the rest of the day coming up with questions for him that would fill out some of the holes in our research. We planned to meet at Caroline’s house on Friday after school to wrap this project up!
12/12/07
Today we had our conference call with Dr. Daly today. Caroline and I took notes while Anna asked the questions. Ms. Rasmussen was also there and she was fascinated with his answers to our questions. Overall it was a very good experiment. We got answers to all of our questions and we also had the experience of setting up a conference call with a professor.
We also had a lab today in class MAC plates and motility testing. I did the pre-lab for this lab and was unable to work on the project.
12/13/07:
Lab day today in class. We did gram tests for several types of bacteria, along with processing the results of motility tests and Mac plate tests. We had some issues with breaking several slides, but it was all good. That night was devoted to finishing the lab analysis, so I couldn’t get any research done.
12/14/07 – Today during class we worked on our lab which we had many difficulties with but we also got to talk a little bit about our wiki. After school, CB, Anna and I went over to CB’s house to try to finish the wiki. We got the majority of it done. We put all of the research together and focused on making it interesting and user friendly. We also hope to have it in as soon as possible to Mrs. Rasumssen and Mrs. Jansen.
Also, we added a lot of cosmetics to our page, such as fun quotes, pictures and different colors and fonts. We also sent the email to Battista hoping to hear back from him in time to add it to our wiki.
