Journal – 12/3/07
Today Ms. Jansen came into our class and talked to us about our website bacteria project. She showed us how to make the website. She also showed us how to edit the pages on the website.
At home I started my research on the structure of deinococcus radiodurans, my first question. I decided to go to Gale Group and clicked on the Student Resource Center Gold. I typed in “deinococcus radiodurans.” It came up with five websites. I clicked on three of the websites. They were named “Two Handed Protein May Protect DNA,” “Meet the SuperBug,” and “Berry Interesting.”

Journal- 12/4/07
In class today Hailey, Caroline CB and I created our timeline for the next two weeks and posted it onto our website.
I went back to Gale because there was one website that I had not tried. It was called “Self-Repairing Bacterium Tantalizing Scientists.” I then tried the keyword “deinococcus” in Gale Group to see if other websites, but the same websites were found.
After the Gale Group I decided to try Nettrekker and Britannica, but neither had any information on deincoccus radiodurans.

In class Ms. Jansen told us that we were able to use the free web to find information. She showed us how to do the web evaluation on the websites we find on the web and told us that for every free website we use, we need to do a free web analysis.
I was not able to do any research for the bacteria because I had to do the lab prep for the lab we are going to do tomorrow.

Journal – 12/6/07
In class today we were able to on our projects because the lab was postponed for tomorrow. Caroline tracked a professor at LSU who is a leading authority in deinococcus radiodurans. We are emailing him to see if he can be a source for our project. We had to write our timeline again on our website because it erased itself. Also I went onto Source Aid to find all of my citations and I found that all except for one of my citations were gone. I now have to back through my journal and find all of the websites I had used.
Professor Battista emailed Caroline back. He said that he would be glad to help, but that it would be best if we emailed him after the fourteenth of December.
For my research I decided to go to the free web. I typed in “edu websites for deinococcus radiodurans.” A website for the Uniformed Services University came up. It was a site for another professor who is currently at the University. There were also links to other professor’s websites such as Battista. I did a web evaluation on it and decided that it was good. I also decided to click on Battista’s link and Cox’s link on the side bar.

Journal-12/7/07
In class today we did our lab so I could not work on it during class. When I got home I decided to my other homework for other classes to get it done with.

Journal-12/8/07 to 12/9/07
I typed up all of my journals and notes from the week to be put onto the website tomorrow.  I put up my notes from the last week onto the website. I was able to find all of the websites that I had used and put them through Source Aid. I then saved them onto word because I did not want to lose them again.
I researched the classifications and got the website for Protein Information Resource Center at Georgetown University. I did a website evaluation guide on it because I found it on ask.com. I am having trouble finding information on the reproduction of Deinococcus Radiodurans. It is very frustrating.

Caroline, Hailey are meeting at my house to put part of our website together. While making questions for our interviews with some professors, Hailey remembered that her uncle has a Ph. D in microbiology and is currently a professor Cornell. We of course ot onto her about not telling us until now. She called her mom and got his number so we will try and set up an interview with him.

We made questions for our interviews with Battista and Daly.

Caroline and I put together all of the information our team has found onto one link so that it is very easy to read and find the information. Caroline and I also worked on the front page of the website.

In class we looked over our labs that we had done on Friday and we also finished our lab analysis.

When I got home, I checked my e-mail and found that Professor Daly had e-mailed me back. He told me that to talk about the bacteria with us, we should call him at noon (his time) on Wednesday of this week. This is very cool. I called Rasmussen to see if it was okay with her and if we could use her office phone for the call.

Also I went onto the free web and found some pictures of deinococcus radiodurans for our website.

Today we have all of our class period to work on our website. We are working on our interview with Professor Daly and what we will say to him. In one of his e-mails, he gave us some websites to look at for DCR. We have split up the websites and looking at them tonight so that we are even more prepared for our interview with him over the phone tomorrow. To tell you the truth I am very nervous about this interview. I have never talked to a professor at a college. This is a really cool opportunity and I think it is really cool that he is taking time out of his day to do this.

I am doing my prep lab for biology tonight and looking at the websites the professor gave us. I will not be able to get to anything else.

Today was an interesting and exciting day. At eleven this morning we had our conference call with Dr. Daly at the Uniformed Services University in Maryland. We had four questions to ask him. He was very nice and he was very excited to talk about deinococcus radiodurans to us. We had all of our questions asked and much more. It was also a very good experience of setting up a conference call and talking to him.

We also did a lab in class with MAC plates and motility tests and the pre-lab for homework that night so I was unable to get any "website" work done.

12/13/07

In class we did gram staining and for homework we had to do the rest of our lab analysis. I was unable to work on the website.

12/14/07

We went over to Caroline's house to work on the project and finish the website. Caroline e-mailed Dr. Battista with a few interview questions and we are waiting for him to respond. I also re-did the compiled inoformation link to make it more interesting and hopefully easier to read. On every page we decided to put quotes from our favorite movies that fit with the page. That was fun.

12/15/07

At midnight we discovered that Hailey's journal did not save. We helped her re-write the journal entries by reminding her what we had done on those days. It did not take very long to re-do but it was still very frustrating. Right now we are just finishing off our website with quotes and pictures. I have picked out my two quotes, one from Newsies and one from Pirates of the Carribean. I really like them. The Pirates quote really shows how I am feeling about this project right now.

I am going through the links and reading over them for typos and such. Today I looked over the compiled notes and the timeline. I am now going over my notes to make sure they are correct. I cannot wait until this project is over even though it has has been a super fun project.

12/16/07

Today is the day to turn in our project. :) I am very tired and need Christmas Break. Anyways, I am going through the definitions to make sure there are not any typos. We are still waiting for Battista to e-mail us back. Our deadline in 3 pm and then we are giving up on him. We tried and that is what matters.

I am now doing my personal evaluation sheet and then I will be done with the website project except for our presentation next week. Hope it goes well. Bye journal!
